Dear Congressman Slaughter:
Your letter of March 14~ 1985 requested that you be kept infonned of the Pr~gress and status of the licensing application filed with the Nuc\\ear Regulatory Commission (NRC) by the Virginia Electr1c and Power Company (VEPCO) for dry storage of spent fuel at its Surry Nuclear Power Plant. My letter of February 27, 1985 prov'lded you with background infonnation~ present status and pro,jections for our reviews of this licensing application. '?D-{( .*:.t-< __..-: - -.- - --- We will be pleased to keep you informed as to the status of this licensing action, as arranged on March 27, 1985 between Ms. Kelly Chapman of your staff and Mr. Joseph Delmedico of our Office of Congressional Affairs. As ,discussed with Mso Chapman, we will notify your offfce and provide cop1es of--Jhe following NRC documents as they are issued: (1) the environmental assessment of the proposed storage ijt Surry, (2) the safety evaluation report on the cask design selected by VEPCO, (3) the safety evaluation -report on the storage system at Surry, and (4) the licensing decision.. These items are the key elements of our revieNS and should enable _you to follow the progress on this licensing action.
