VIRGINIA ELECTRIC A.ND POWER COMPANY RICHMOND, VIRGINIA 23261 W. L. STEWAH':l' VxcE PRESXDENT NucLEA.R OPERATIONS December 29, 1982 Mr.<Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attn:

Mr. Darrell G. Eisenhut, Director Division of Licensing U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555 Gentlemen:

Serial No. 227E SPS,NO/DAC,DWL:acm Docket Nos. 50-280 50-281 License Nos. DPR-32 DPR-37 VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY SURRY POWER STATION SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 82-05 In our response to Generic Letter 82-05 dated May 17, 1982 (Serial No. 227),

Vepco committed to having operational systems for plant effluent noble gas monitoring, sampling and analysis (NUREG-0737, Items II.F.1.1 and II.F.1.2) by January 1, 1983.

Vepco is experiencing support problems with the systems supplier (Kaman Instrumentation, Inc.)

in resolving component failures experienced during final startup testing.

Accordingly, it is necessary to extend our commitment date to March 1, 1983.

The station has ordered replacement parts for the Vent Stack Accident Range Monitor and is currently waiting for delivery.

Despite Vepco' s efforts to place this system in service, delays in the delivery of repaired or replacement components has necessitated the commitment extension to March 1, 1983.

All interim monitoring systems are still operational.
