Mr. Darrell G. Eisenhut, Director Division of Licensing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.

20555 Gentlemen:

Serial No. 227B NO/DWL/PSEC/EVF:ba Docket Nos. 50-280 50-281 License Nos. DPR-32 DPR-37 VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY SURRY POWER STATION UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSE FO GENERIC LETTER 82-05 NUREG-0737, ITEM II.F.1.6 As noted in our May 17, 1982 response to Generic Letter 82-05 (Serial No.

227), the Surry Hydrogen Monitors required by NUREG-0737, Item II.F.l Part 6 are installed and tested.

The associated sample supply and return lines for the Hydrogen Monitors are not installed.

Accordingly, in our May 17, 1982 letter we requested on extension of the implementation schedule until January 1, 1983 for this item.

We are actively pursuing completion of this system by the January 1, 1983 date indicated in our Generic Letter 82-05 response.

Based on the remaining scope of work, the above completion date appears credible, but in order to account for possible, though unanticipated, construction related difficulties during installation, we wish to extend the completion date until March 1, 1983.

Possible delays would result from difficulties encountered during the placement of seismic pipe support baseplates as well as periodic inaccessibi-lity of portions of the auxiliary building due to high radiation and contamination levels.

It is our intention to keep you advised of the ongoing progress of this project from now until completion.

Please contact us if you have any questions.

Very truly yours, 8206290079-,.8206-23..
