FIRE PROTECTION MODIFICATIONS STATUS REPORT SURRY POWER STATION Serial No. 645 NO/SWB:lms Docket Nos. 50-280 50-281 License Nos. DPR-32 DPR-37 The purpose of this letter is to report the status of the fire protection modifications required by 10 CFR 50.48.

Surry Units 1 and 2 are in compliance with 10 CFR 50.48 upon completion of the following outstanding items:

1.

Emergency Lighting - Upgrading emergency lighting units to a 8 hour9.259259e-5 days <br />0.00222 hours <br />1.322751e-5 weeks <br />3.044e-6 months <br /> bat-tery supply in all safe shutdown areas will be complete by November 19, 1981.

2.

Reactor Coolant Pump Motor Oil Collection System - Unit 1 oil collection system is complete.

Unit 2 will be completed prior to startup from the present refueling.

3.

Charging Pump Service Water Redundant Water Supply (Fire Protection Safety Evaluation Report item 3.1.25(2)) -

Vepco has submittted design information to the NRC for approval (Vepco letter Serial No. 404 dated July 2, 1981).

Vepco will install the modification 60 weeks after approval.

All other modifications required by 10 CFR 50.48 are complete.
