-On July 31, 1981, the NRC staff recommended to the Commission, in response

... to_ an industry petition, that the June 30, 1982 deadline for equipment qualification be extended to June 30, 1983, with limited provisions for further extensions on a case-by-case basis.

In addition, the NRC staff has provided clarifications on many of the technical issues in this area.
