DPR-32 DPR-37 of Vepco letter Serial No. 1009 dated December 23, 1980 provided clarification of design modifications and implementation schedules documented in the Surry Power Station Fire Protection Safety Evaluation Report.
In a recent telephone conversation between the NRC and Vepco, your staff requested additional supporting information concerning certain modifications.

RESPONSE TO
SUMMARY
OF STAFF REQUIREMENTS SURRY POWER STATION Section 3.1.18(1), 3.1.18(8) - Hose Stations Attachment (1) of Vepco letter Serial No. 354L dated June 30, 1980 submitted design information concerning additional turbine building hose racks.
All areas of the plant containing safety related equipment can be reached by hose stations.
It has been verified that existing hose stations in the turbine building have sufficient hose reach for all areas of the switchgear rooms and are equipped with nozzles suitable for extinguishing electrical fires.
Section 3.1.18(3) - Hose Stations Attachment (1) of Vepco letter Serial No. 354L dated June 30, 1980 details the location and the design of the hose station at the entrance of the cable tray rooms.
The hose station has sufficient hose to reach all areas of both cable tray rooms and mechanical equipment rooms 1 and 2.
Section 3.1.18(7) - Hose Stations Attachment (1) (page 41) of Vepco letter Serial No. 885 dated October 31, 1980 provided information concerning hose reach in the turbine building.
All locations on the 29 feet, 6 inch elevation of the turbine building can be reached by a maximum of 100 feet of 1~ inch hose attached to interior hose stations or attached to 2~ inch hose from a yard hose cabinet.
Section 3.1.26(1) - Water Suppression Systems Attachment (3) of Vepco letter Serial No. 354C/061478 dated Sep,tember 7, 1979 submitted design information in regard to the modified ventilation system.
The sprinkler system on the new filter bank is designed to deliver 3.2 gallons per minute per cubic feet of charcoal.
Section 3.1.26(2) - Heat Collector Plates Installation of the heat collector plates was completed in June, 1980.
These plates are 5 inches in diameter and are installed over the sprinkler head per NFPA requirements.
Section 3.1.30(1) - Technical Specifications The Technical Specification change required for the charging pump cross con-nection will be submitted in time to support startup of Unit 1 following the present steam generator replacement outage.
