Dear Mr. Denton:
In our letter of March 19, 1980 concerning the disassembly and inspection of the reactor coolant pump supports, we stated that the. details of the inspec~
tion program would be provided to you for your review when the procedures were completed.
Described herein are the disassembly and inspection procedures of the reactor coolant pump supports.
To assist in the description of the disassembly and inspection, we have attached drawings 11448-FM-53A,
- 53B, and 53C which are drawings of the reactor coolant pump supports.
As stated in our letter of March 19, 1980, we intend to disassemble one leg assembly and fully inspect one of the mono-ball assemblies.
The leg to be removed is shown as item 1 on drawing 11448-FM-53A and will be done in steam generator cubicle "C" only.
The steps to be followed in the disassembly are described below:
- 1.
Install a temporary support frame under the reactor coolant pump.
- 2.
Remove the two (2) upper diagonal supports (item 10, FM-53A).
- 3.
- 4.
- 5.
Scribe match marks on each half of the clevis (items 1 and 2, FM-53C) of the monoball assembly so that the leg assembly may be reassembled to its original configuration.
Remove retaining rings and washers and drive out clevis pins (item 3, FM-53C) at each end of leg 1 and remove leg 1.
Remove the upper clevis half from ceiling support plate, the lower clevis half from the support leg, and prepare them for inspection by pressing out the monoball, sand blasting to remove the hersite coating
( the threads, pin bearing surfaces, and clevis bearing surfaces will be protected during sandblasting), and cleaning in A /
acetone.
oc)

s The inspection will consist of a 100 percent visual inspection, 100 percent ultrasonic inspection, and 100 percent liquid pene-J/'/O trant inspection of the clevis halves and pins.
