VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY RICHMOND,VIRGINIA 23261 June 18, 1980 Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attn:
Mr. S. A. Varga Operating Reactors Branch No. 1 Division of Licensing U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.

Dear Mr. Denton:
Serial No. 603C/101978 NO/MDK:smv Docket Nos:
50-280 50-281 License Nos:
DPR-32 DPR-37 In our letter of January 31, 1979, we provided specific test details for the testing, inspections, and analysis of one low head safety injection (LHSI) pump at Surry Power Station.
We have completed these activities and have re-ceived the final pump vibration analysis report prepared by Wiss, Janney, Elstner and Associates.
The final report is attached for your review.
The results of our review of the testing and inspections have found the LHSI pumps at Surry Power Station to be in excellent condition.
There has been no indication of poor pump performance or excessive bearing wear after long term testing.
This has been substantiated by Wiss, Janney, Elstner and Associates report which concludes that there is no evidence of increased vibration or pump misoperation with extended operating time.
The submittal of the attached reports fulfills.your concerns and requirements and brings this issue to a close.
It is concluded that the results of the performance testing justifies the LHSI pumps at Surry Power Station will per-form their design function to mitigate the consequences of a LOCA.
MDK/smv:Hl Sincerely,
- Y)f!~?
