Serial No. 132 PO/FHT:baw Docket Nos: 50-280 50-281 License Nos: DPR-32 DPR-37 Containment Purging During Operation Surry Power Station Units 1 and 2 .In response to your letters of Septemqer 27, 1979, and October 23, 1979, concerning containment purging during operation at Surry Power Station, we forwarded letters Serial No. 846/09 2779, dated October 26, 19 79, and Serial No. 891/102379, dated December 13, 1979. This letter is intended to supplement our December 13, 1979 response. We are continuing our review of containment purge valve operability under LOCA conditions with the plant at 350°F and 450 psig to insure that the purge valves will remain operable. It will be several weeks before the*evaluation will be complete. In the interim we will not perform containment purging operations unless the plant is in the cold shutdown or refueling mode, and will not re~ume purging above 200°F until our evaluation is complete and justification has been provided to your staff. cc: Mr. James P. 0 1Reilly Very truly yours,
