Dear Mr. Denton:

Serial No. 1183 PO/HSM:smv Docket Nos:

50-280 50-281 License Nos:

DPR-32 DPR-37 At the present time, the steam generator replacement activities on Surry Unit 2 are nearing completion (approximately 98% complete).

The tasks which remain are essentially the refueling and startup activities.

For this reason, on December 31, 1979, the steam generator replacement will be considered complete for the purpose of progress reporting requirements in amendment 46 to the operating license for Surry Unit No. 2.

As required by amendment 46, a final report will be issued 60 days thereafter by February 29, 1980.

The tasks which will not have been completed by December 31, 1979 are as follows:

1.

Refueling

2.

Hydrostatic Testing (presently in progress)

3.

Installation of Insulation

4.

Reassembly of the Shroud Cooling System

5.

Touch-up Painting All of these tasks have been previously performed so that the occupational exposure can be estimated for these tasks based on past experience.

The ex-posure for these tasks will then be added to the actual expsosure as of Decem-ber 31, 1979 to determine the total occupational exposure.
