e VISUAL INSPECTION RESULTS RESPONSE TO IE BULLETIN 79-17 SURRY POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND 2 e
In accordance with the requirements of item 2(a) of IE.Bulletin 79-17, revision I, the monthly visual inspections of all accessible welds in stagnant borated water systems have been completed for the month of November.
Inspection of Unit 1 was completed on 11/25/79 and Unit 2 on 11/30/79.
The results were as follows:
- 1.
No evidence of leakage or boric acid residue was discovered in the weld areas.
Other areas were noted such as valve, pump or fitting (non-weld type) leakage and maintenance reports have been submitted.
- 2.
A number of arc strikes were discovered.
Stone & Webster is analyzing the situation to determine the course of action.
- 3.
Rust was found on surfaces of stainless steel piping both in the weld areas and on the piping itself.
Stone & Webster was called in to evaluate the situation.
Stone & Webster concluded that the rust will not compromise the integrity of the piping systems and they do not recommend removal of the rust from the pipe O.D.
Subsequent reports will be forwarded following completion of additional visual inspections.
