VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY RICHMOND,VIROINIA 23261 November 29, 1979 Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attn:
Mr. William P. Gammill, Acting Assistant Director for Operating Reactor Projects Division of Operating Reactors Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C.

Dear Mr. Denton:
Serial No.
892/100279 PO/RMT:baw Docket Nos: 50-280 50-281 50-338 50-339 License Nos: DPR-32 DPR-37 NPF-4 In response to your lett~r of October 2, 1979, concerning the Oak Ridge Associated Universities' Radiation Safety course, we find the program, as outlined, acceptable in the respect that it provides the basic indoctrina-tion requirements on radiation safety.
However, we find the attached "NRC Radiation Safety Seminar Schedule" inadequate in that it does not fully describe particulars on course content we will require prior to reaching a final determination of acceptance.
The type of information we require is typified by the following questions:
- 1.
Is prenatal exposure (Reg. Guide 8.13) taught in the course?
- 2.
Which methods of radiation protection are taught?
- 3.
Are both gaseous and particulate airborne contamination and the applicable respirator types taught during the "Respiratory Protection" portion of the course?
We would appreciate your submittal of a detailed syllabus to us so that we may reach a resolution of this item.
