NOTICE OF APPROVAL OF DESIGN MODIFICATIO~S During the current shutdown of the Surry Power Station, Unit l located.in Surry County, Virginia, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (the Commission) has reviewed and found:)cceptable modifica-tions to the 480V Class IE System (480V emergency~*-bus) which were found to be necessary by the licensee, the Virginia Electric and Power Company.
The modifications which have been completed, corrected
_a* ~ondition which could have resulted in an under power situation preventing the proper functioning of engineered safeguards equipment
-during a postulated loss of coolant accident.
Prior public notice of acceptance of these modifications was not required since. the acceptance did not involve a significant hazards consideration.
The Commission has determined that this action will not result in any significant environmental impact and that pursuant
-to 10 CFR §51.5(d)(4) an environmental impact statement, or negative declaration and environmental impact appraisal need not be prepared in connection with issuance of this action.
For further details with respect to this action, see (1) the Com-:iission's letter to the licensee dated April 16, 1979, (2) the licensee's letters dated May 3 and June 18, 1979, (3) the Commission's letter to the licensee dated August 20, 1979, and (4) the Co~mission's related Safety Evaluation.
