Docket No. 50-335 Su lementar Information In response to your letter of August 10, 1976, Florida Power 8 Light Company submits the following answers to your inquiries:

gllEETIEN Nl Identify the water contour shown. (Is the contour at mean high water?)

ANSWER: The water contour shown is the water's edge at the time of the survey. Future s'urveys will be made to the mean high water level of the ocean.

EIIEETIEN NEI':- Identify the location of the section of beach shown. Show the location of the plant intake and discharge channels and other plant features for the purpose of locating the survey.

ANSWER: Attached are Figures 1 and 2 which locate the beach survey with respect to plant features.

ENNNTINN NN Draw the figure to scale, with dimensions shown, to enable comparisons with the FSAR description and with subsequent surveys.

ANSWER: Figures 1 and 2 are',drawn to scales of 1" = 600'nd

.. 1" ='400'espectively.'w'o figures'ere required to pro-vide clarity and to cover the large a'rea'f the survey.

To: Dennis L. Ziemann October ll, 1976 Re: St. Lucie Unit 1 Beach Survey Page sIIESTIDII14-S y dunes 1 i it p to meet Specification 5. 1.3.

te et p bi'liy I'he ANSWER: Technical Specification 5.1.3 refers to St. Lucie Unit 1 FSAR Section 2.4.2.2, Flood Design Considerations. The dune description provided therein is as follows:

Width at crest elevation: On the order of Crest evelation (MLW ocean):

5o IJidth at elevation of 14'0'o Old Beach Dune Road:

50'he survey conducted on June 7, 1976, showed the following:

Width AVERAGE MAXIMUM MINIMUM at'crest elevation: ~0 33 12 Crest elevation (MLW ocean): .

at elevation of Old Beach Dune Road: 104'7'.

15.2'7.4'1.4'87'idth Since the parameters of the dune are greater than, or within the range of, the description in the FSAR, and since the added height and width of the dune should improve the hurricane flood protection provided, we conclude that the dune is accep-table according to the criteria referenced in Specification 5.1.3.

Your letter also requested information concerning the photographic survey of the mangrove area required by Technical Specification 4.7.6.1.2. Bids are currently being received from outside contractors for this work. The photography should be completed in November, with future photography planned to coincide as nearly as practicable with the June beach dune survey. In all cases, the photographs will be evaluated for evidence of deterioration, then both the photographs and the evaluation will be submitted to the St. Lucie Plant Manager for inclusion in the annual operating report.

Yours very truly,

~
