I am particularly concerned that the EIS address the socioeconomic and justice of locating the site in a location such that the tax and economic benefit of the site go to the communities, counties and state tax base which is burdened with the support of project, and the risk and burden of the local citizens. While I trust that the final EIS effort will provide the safety and guidelines that are appropriate for such an installation, the location of the site should consider strongly the economic cost and benefits be distributed accordingly.
I have reviewed much of the Holtec proposed technology and system. As an engineer I feel relatively knowledgeable about the technology and would support the overall proposed plan.
A couple of critical advantages of the proposed Holtec site, which would be located on the Eddy-Lea Energy Alliance site in Lea County, New Mexico approximately 35 miles west of Hobbs, is its remote location from a populated center, its geologically stable location, and its environmentally stable location.
