The licensee provided tne'::information and his responses to the staff positions in a letter dated April 18, 1978. Subsequently, an.additional review was performed following reassignment of the task to a different review team. This review resulted in the development of requests for additional information which were teletyped to the.licensee on September 13, and September 19~ 1978. This request for additional information is included as Enclosure l to this memorandum.
During the site visit the licensee provided the review team with infonnal responses* t_o the items 1 isted in Enclosure l and. agreed to confirm tillese informal responses in a letter.
During the period of October 16 through October 20!) _19789 the NRC fi.re protection review team visited the Prairie Island Plant.
On
- October 20s an exit meeting was held with the licensee to discuss staff concerns ~rid positions. The list of attendees at the exit meeting is provided* in Enclosure 2.
A summary of the items that the licensee agreed to complete in response to the concerns raised by the staff is provided as Enclosure 3. The staff concerns and positions which were discussed with the licensee at the exit meeting and rEmctlin as open items are listed in Enclosure 4.
The review te~m*s review of the licensee responses {NSP ltr. of April 18, 1978) to the first five staff positions resulted in modified staff positions which were discussed with the licensee at the exit meeting.
These modified staff positions are listed in Enclosure 5.

- NOV 1 6 1978 In order to obtain a timely resolution of the noncerns identified in and 6~ these concerns should be transmitted to the licensee and the licensee should be requested to address each of these concerns in the following way:
- 1.
Commit to implement the staff position;
- 2. Prppose an alternative method to resolve the staff's concern; or
- 3. Provide the basis by which the present fire protection program addresses the concern without further action.
It is requested that a meeting with the licensee be scheduled approximately one week after receipt of the licensee's response to the open items listed in Enclosure 4 and 6.
