SUMMARY

OF OPERATING m E . '_

?lOVEMBER, 1978 Listed below in chronological sequence by unit is a summary of operating experiences for this month which required load reductions or resulted in sign-ificant non-load related incidents.

UNIT 1

  • November 1 This report period begins with the unit at 100% power. - i November 8 At 1120 power was reduced to 90%. The ineore/excore nuclear
    • .-. indication' calibration map was found to be out of date.

November 9 At 0915 the map results were found to be acceptable and load was increased to 100%.

November 10 - At 1433 during a switching operation in the switchyard #1 Auto Transformer failed.

November 21 At 1136 "B" High Pressure Drain Pump motor tripped on ground .I I

fault and "A" High Pressure Drain Pump showed low resistance cau~ing approximately 40 MWe reduction in output as a result of no High Pressure Drain P:iimps operating.

November 22 - At 0930 the "A" High Pressure Drain Pump was returned to-service.

At 1015 the load was reduced to 88% due to a secondary chemistry transient. This resulted from a high inleakage f~om condenser tube failures.

r~- ... November 23 - At 0457 returned unit to 100% power. The c'ondense'f inleakage was

. \.; stopped and chemistry stabilized. I November 29 - At 1120 a rampdown was commenced because "A'i BAST & BIT were low - . I in boron concentration. Primary grade water was inadvertantly introduced to the BAST. At 1250 with reactor power at approxi~*- : -. -

mately 80% the [CB] in the "B" BAST & BIT were returned to speci~

fication and a ramp~up was begun. At 1442 the unit was returned

  • * -eo 100% power.

' i November 30 - This.report period ends with the unit at 100% power.

UNIT 2 November 1 This report period begins with the unit*at 100% p<;>wer *

. November 19 - At 0140 a load reduction to load follow was begun at the request of system operator. At 0252 load was at 83% power. At 0445 a .

load increase was begun and at 0620 the unit was returned to iOO% power.

  • November 30 - This report period ends with the unit at 100% power.
. Af*1ENm s TO FACILITY LICENSE OR TECH~ SPECIFICATIOHS NOVEMBER, 1978 On 11-06-78 the Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued amendment No.

45 to the Operating Licenses for the Surry Power Station Unit Nos. l and 2, which are designated as Technical Specification Change No. 56. This change is the result of our request to revise the Non~Radiological Environ-mental Monitoring Program. Of significance are the following changes:

(1) Deletion of the biological monitoring program except fdr a low intensity fish sampling program.

(2) Reduction of the programs for temperature salinity and impingment monitoring.

(3) In addition, a correction _to page TS 6.4-7a is included which indicates fourteen (14) days ap the correct review period.
