With regard to the certification by the U.
S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) =of Florida Power and Light Company's Nuclear Power Plant, St. Lucie Unit g2, Hutchinson Island, Florida, as you may know, a federal. court. injunction was recently granted enjoining the issuance of the certifica-tion until such time as the NRC.properly considers alternate sites for this project.
It is,my understanding that the NRC has as yet failed to schedule these hearings.
The timely certification of this power plant is a matter
'f great importance to the many working men and women who are or would be'mployed in this endeavor.
I urge you to promptly schedule the appropriate hearings.on"alternative sites so.that,.
the matter'can be expeditiously resolved.
Many workers have in fact already been laid off due to the frequent delays in this proj ect.
Your immediate scheduling of the'hearings and action on the certification would be greatly appreciated.
