Light Company's St. Lucie Unit S2 Nuclear Plant pending the outcome of hearings to consider alternate sites for this Nuclear Plant, and forced hundreds of workers out of a job.
In coopex'ation with these unemployed woxkexs, the City Commission of the City of Fox't Pierce, Florida, adopted Resolution No. 76-6',
copy of which is attached, petitioning the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to expedite said heaxings scheduled for December 1, 2 and 3, 1976; and if approval of St. Lucie Unit 82 is merited, that they further expedite the construction permit for St. Lucie Unit 82 at the earliest possible date in December,
- 1976, to help reduce the unemployment rate in this area which now stands at fourteen and one-half percent.
The City Commission would appxeciate any assistance you are able to give in this matter.

LUCIE UNIT g2 NUCLEAR PLANT TO PREVENT CONTINUED UNEMPLOYMENT OF HUNDREDS OF WORKERS IN THIS AREA WHICH IS BESIEGED BY THE HXGHEST UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN THE STATE ~

WHEREAS, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, required hearings to be held on Septenber 8,
9 and 10, 1976, to consider 'alternate sites for its St. Lucie Unit 82 nuclear plant; 'and WHEREAS, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has cancelled those hearing dates and has now established new dates on December 1,
2 and 3, 1976; and WHEREAS, the Federal Courts on October 22, 1976, issued an injunction halting all work on Unit 82 pending the outcome of these
- hearings, thus forcing hundreds of workers to become unemployed in an area already besieged by the highest unemployment rate in the State.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED By the City Commission of the City of Fort Pierce, Florida, that this Commission petitions the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to expedite these hearings, and if approval is merited, to expedite the construction permit at the earliest possible date in December, 1976, to reduce. the unemployment rate in this area.
BE XT 'FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution shall become effective upon its adoption.
