File 1177711509 Dear Senator Stone:

Than!< you for your show of interest in your letter dd, April 26 to filr.E.G.prime, who is aloo a CURE Director, Pie received a short reply from the i!RC,.stating that the mission of the iJRC isi~ to assure that if nuclear eneroy is used in private industry, the public is protected..

~ This didn't do much to alleviate the anxiety of our roughly 200 members.

Since then, a malfunctioning valve in the coolant system of the plant neces itated another shutdown.

Althouoh FpL had said the 4000 gal of primary coolant spill (April 6) would be processed in the plant o" allowed to sit for 3 to 6 wee!<s to permit radioactive decay, it was dischargde on the 9th day when the water valve caused overheating and the next plant shutdown.

A olance at the enclosed performance record of St.Lucia I mill show some of the reasons for our communi-cationi Our concern is heightened by the fact that the

!JRC Board has recently decided that the cash investment ma!<es i advisable to proceed with another plan even though no other actual ites were considered beforehand.

Furthermore, evacuation plannino in Florida in case of nuclear accident or war is almost nonexistant and Civil Defense iB Florida is acutely conce~~rned.

Ne urge you to use your influence to achieve better evacuation plans for our State and to delay the creation of nevi nuclear plants until all it" extraordinary problems of performance, waste storaoe, insurance and evacuation plans have been resolved.

Just received the news that St.Lucis I is DOL!h; again....

this time for a mal function in the Generators It would eem to me that SQflEBODY ought to ma!<e sure cla~ms that i 26 ll f
