PO Box 415 Trenton, New Jersey 08625-0415 Tel (609) 984-7700 April 8, 1998 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 Ladies and Gentlemen:

Subject:

Salem Generating Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-272 and 50-311 License Change Request S97-08 Administrative and Editorial Changes to Technical Specifications Commissioner Public Service Electric and Gas Company submitted the subject change request to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on November 17, 1997. The proposed amendment would correct a variety of typographically and editorial errors throughout the Technical Specifications for each unit.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Bureau of Nuclear Engineering reviewed the above request in accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50.91 (b ). Our review noted that corrections to references to Figure 3.1-3 are no longer relevant for the Unit 1 Technical Specifications, since that figure was deleted in Amendments 201 and 202. These references are on Pages 3/4 1-18 and 3/4 1-23 of the Unit 1 Technical Specifications.

If you have any questions, please contact Rich Pinney at (609) 984-7558.
