SAFETY EVALUATION OF TOPICAL REPORT APR1400-F-M-TR-13001, REVISION 1, PLUS7 FUEL DESIGN FOR THE APR1400
Dear Dr. Corradini:
On behalf of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff, I would like to thank you for the letter from the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) dated March 26, 2018, on the safety evaluation of Topical Report APR1400-F-M-TR-13001, Revision 1, August 2017, PLUS7 Fuel Design for the APR1400, associated with the Advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR1400) design (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)
Accession No. ML18074A379). Your letter was in response to the discussions on the PLUS7 fuel design safety evaluation that took place during ACRSs 651st meeting on March 8-9, 2018.
As discussed during the meeting, the staff added a condition stating that the staffs approval is limited to baseload operations. Any applicant or licensee referencing the topical report who wishes to use non-baseload operations must address additional safety concerns as stated in the safety evaluation. The staff issued the safety evaluation on May 25, 2018 (ADAMS Accession No. ML18130A366).
The ACRS thorough review of the APR1400 design certification and related topical reports is appreciated. We look forward to future meetings with the ACRS.
