b. status of applicants who passed NRC exam

2. For NuScale (small modular reactor - SMR) discuss:
a. SMR technology

c. Project activities underway
3. Discuss the goals and status of the following NRC Charter Teams:
a. Operator Licensing Process at Cold Plants
b. Plant-Referenced Simulators & Commission-Approved Simulation Facilities 2

AP1000 Simulator 3

AP1000 NRC Exams

  • VC Summer (project cancelled)

- May 2015 (wr) + Sept 2016 (full) + Feb 2017 (op)

- 22 pass letters; 14 applicants to Vogtle

  • Vogtle

- July 2016 (full) + Feb 2017 (full)

- 37 pass letters (not including 14 VCS applicants)

- March 2018 class (24 applicants)

- Licensee requesting ~ 75 licenses 4

AP1000 applicants w/ pass letters

  • SAT-based continuing training program enrollment (Form 398 item)

- Maintain skills & knowledge previously evaluated

- New operationally important topics since NRC exam

  • Deferred experience item which includes pre-operational testing 5

Vogtle AP1000

  • Fuel bundle ~ 6ft
  • 5% of op fleet fuel
  • Natural circulation
  • Containment sits in pool
  • Each reactor module has turb-gen, ~ 50 Mwe
  • Twelve module plant
  • 12 reactor modules ~
  • License class ~ 11 mos.

600 MWe total (includes GFE)

  • Can test major events 1 STA (total) on multiple units at the same time

- Operator licensing process completion at Vogtle

  • Part B Focus

- In-plant JPMs when plant not yet built

- Simulator/Training Program Inspections

- Operational draft procedure pedigree

- K/A Catalog development

- GFE shelf life

- Roll-out method for Part A & B

  • Parts A & B target date is May 2018 12

Charter: Plant Reference Simulator (PRS) and Commission Approved Simulator (CAS)

  • Part 1 Focus

- Identify items necessary for PRS
