On July 15, 1988, Public Service Electric and Gas (PSE&G) submitted exemption requests to 10CFR50, Appendix R via letter NLR-N88070. Exemption 2 contained in this submittal was associated with the Control Room Complex (Area 12FA-AB-122A).

The NRC issued the safety* evaluation granting the exemption from 10CFR50, Appendix R for the Control Room Complex on July 20, 1989. PSE&G submitted in letter NLR-N92092, dated July 14, 1992, corrections regarding the description of the control room complex that was contained in the July 20, 1989 NRC Safety Evaluation Report. On June 17, 1994, the NRC reviewed its previous evaluation against the description of the Control Room Complex contained in the July 15, 1988, and concluded that its previous evaluation and conclusions remained valid despite the new understanding of the physical description of the control room complex..

PSE&G has implemented a modification to the control room complex for both Salem Units 1 and 2 which impacts the description of the control room complex that was contained in the July 15, 1988 exemption request. The modification combined the separate Unit 1 and 2 control rooms into a corrunon control room area. The Control Room Complex as a result of the modification will consist of the corrunon Control Room Area, Computer Rooms, Control Equipment I Rooms, Control Area Air Conditioning Rooms, a Shift \
