ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REVISED RESPONSE TO NRC NOTICE OF VIOLATION INSPECTION REPORT 50-272/96-01, 50-311/96-01 SALEM GENERATING STATION UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-272 AND 50-311 In letter dated April 25, 1996, {LR-N96105) Public Service Electric and Gas (PSE&G) committed to revise procedure NC.NA-609-339-5700 AP. ZZ-0009 (NAP-9), Work Control Process.
In letter dated July 31, 1996, (LR-N96224) PSE&G modified the commitment due date from July 31, 1996 to prior to unit 2 restart.
PSE&G also committed to notify the NRC with the results of the work management process evaluation by August 31, 1996.
The following paragraphs provide a brief summary of the results of this evaluation.
As part of the restart program for Salem Units 1 and 2, PSE&G established a Work Control Process improvement team to evaluate different alternatives to improve the overal} "1nrk management process.
As a result of this evaluation the.. _**
"r~':':-:iJ., proc-..:ss will be streamlined by relocating task-specific details from procedure NAP-9 to one or more of the following; NC.NA-AP.ZZ-0000 (NAP-0), Action Request Process, the Work Management Manual, or the Department Desk Guides.
Accordingly, the next revision to NAP-9 will remove task-specific steps.
The specified commitments will be included in the Work Management Mam :11, the Planning and Mainten~-nce Desk Guides, or NAP-0, as appropriate, prior to Unit 2 restart.
PSE&G believes that by incorporating the commitments into these documents an equivalent level of compliance is achieved.

As PSE&G continues to identify opportunities to improve safety, reliability and overall efficiency of its management programs, regulatory commitments may be modified, relocated or eliminated.
PSE&G's process for managing commitments follows the guidelines developed by the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI).
