20555 Gentlemen:

INTEGRATED SCHEDULING PROGRAM FOR MAJOR MODIFICATIONS SALEM AND HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATIONS DOCKET NOS. 50-272, 50-311 AND 50-354 In a letter dated February 26, 1993, Public Service Electric and Gas Company {PSE&G) submitted a formal request for NRC Staff review of our proposed Integrated Scheduling Program {ISP) for major modifications at the Salem and Hope Creek Generating Stations.

Our Program was based on the NRC's Final Policy Statement on Integrated Schedules {57FR43886).

PSE&G expected the ISP to provide better control over NRC commitments and PSE&G resources associated with major station modifications (e.g., Generic Letter 89-10).

During 1993, we improved our project planning, scheduling and control processes, and initiated a Cost Beneficial Licensing Action Program {CBLA).

These changes have provided many of the advantages we anticipated from the ISP.

We are also implementing process/programmatic improvements in response to internal self-assessment recommendations.

Considering these changes, we questioned the value of another major program.

After balancing the NRC and,

PSE&G resources necessary to accommodate the ISP {reporting requirements, notifications, etc.) against the added benefit, we concluded that it is not prudent to pursue the ISP at this time.

Thus, we are withdrawing our ISP for major modifications at Salem and Hope Creek Generating Stations.
