Public Service Electric and Gas Company I
Stanley LaBruna Public Service Electric and Gas* company P.O. Box 236, Hancocks Bridge, NJ 08038 609-339-1700 Vice President - Nuclear Engineering JUL 121993 NLR-N93112 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attention:
Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 Gentlemen:
ANNUAL PEAK FUEL CLAD TEMPERATURE REPORT SALEM GENERATING STATION UNITS 1 & 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-272 AND 50-311 Pursuant to the requirements of 10CFR50.46, Public Service Electric and Gas (PSE&G) hereby submits our annual report describing the changes to the calculated peak cladding temperature (PCT) for Salem Units 1 and 2 Large and Small Break Loss of Coolant Accident (LB LOCA and SB LOCA) analyses.
In the last annual report of July 31, 1992, the PCT values were 2112°F for LB LOCA and 1658°F for SB LOCA.
The revised values for this year are 2109°F for LB LOCA and 1658°F for SB LOCA.
The decrease in PCT for the LB LOCA analyses is attributed to two changes:
- 1) the fuel rod model was refined to provide more consistent and reliable results for top skewed power shapes, and
- 2) the vessel material properties used in the code were changed to reflect the actual properties more accurately.
The first change accounted for a PCT penalty of 22°F while the second change provided a benefit of 25°F.
The net change, therefore, was a three degree decrease from 2112°F to 2109°F.
There were no changes made to the SB LOCA calculation since the last report.
Should you have any questions concerning this transmittal, please contact us.
Sincerely, 150(61
