CLARIFICATION OF RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 87-02, SUPPLEMENT 1 SALEM GENERATING STATION -
UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-272 AND 50-311 In response to your November 13, 1992 letter, Public* Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) hereby submits the following clarifications to our response to the subject Generic Letter Supplement:
COMMITMENT TO THE GIP The NRC staff raised a concern regarding whether PSE&G will fully
- implement all provisions of the guidance sections of the GIP and, if not, what process would be used by PSE&G for notifying the Staff of deviations.
In response, PSE&G's actions will be in accordance with Part I, Section 1.3 of the GIP, Rev. 2 (corrected Feb~urry 14, 1992), which was accepted by the staff in its SSER No. 2 on the GIP, dated May 22, 1992.
PLANT SEISMIC LICENSING BASIS PSE&G intends to revise its licensing basis to include USI-46 (GIP) methodology for verifying the seismic adequacy ef new, replacement 'and existing electrical and mechanical equipment, as an alternative to use of IEEE 344-1971.
This change will be conducted under the provisions of 10CFR 50.59 and will be consistent with PSE&G implementation of the GIP, Rev. 2, and with the clarifications, interpretations and exceptions identified in the Staff's SSER No. 2.
