ADEQUACY OF CONTAINMENT FAN COOLERS AT SALEM UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS~ M80443/M80444)

Salem Units 1 and 2 Public Service Electric and Gas Company M80443/M80444 OR J. Stone SELB/DST Complete Electrical Systems Branch (SELB) was requested to review the adequacy of containment fan cooler motors for their intended service.

The licensee performed an engineering analysis (Salem engineering analysis S-C-CBV-MEE-0527) to determine the BHP requirement of the containment fan coolers at different operating conditions.

SELB has completed its review of this analysis and has determined that the motors were adequately sized based on the following:

1)

Fan Motor name plate rating of 300/100 HP and Service Factor of 1.0

2)

BHP requirement during normal operation is 260-270 HP

3)

BHP requirement during accident condition is 85.4 HP

4)

Acceptability of the Salem engineering analysis by Plant system Branch (Refer to memorandum from C. E.

McCracken to Charles L. Miller dated December 31, 1991)
