Discharge Confirmation Report

Dear Sirs:

RETRACTION OF OIL SHEEN/DISCHARGE REPORT PUBLIC SERVICE ELECTRIC AND GAS (PSE&G) -

SALEM GENERATING STATION (CASE #01-12-01-1218-54)

This letter will serve as confirmation of a December 2, 1991 contact between PSE&G and the NJDEPE Hotline, Operator 23, in which PSE&G retracted notification of a discharge which oc::curred on December 1, 1991.

On December 1, 1991, PSE&G reported a oil sheen on the Delaware River from an undetermined activity.

The discharge was reported to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and Energy (NJDEPE) Hotline in accordance with the requirements of NJAC 7:1E-5.8.

PSE&G, in making the notification, believed that it acted in accordance with the spirit of the regulations by informing the NJDEPE that an oil discharge of an unknown cause, possibly station-related, had occurred.

However, subsequent investigation of incident, by examination of permitted outfalls and possible discharge sources by PSE&G environmental and engineering personnel, has determined that an oil discharge and subsequent oil sheen was not the result of PSE&G activities.
