ASME SECTION XI CODE CASE APPLICATION CODE CASE N-498 SALEM GENERATING STATION - UNIT 2 DOCKET NO. 50-311 Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) respectfully requests the application of ASME Section XI Code Case N-498, Alternate Rules for 10-Year Hydrostatic Pressure Testing For Class 1 and 2 Systems, for use during the first inspection interval at Salem Unit 2.
As an alternative to the rules required by 1974 Edition, Summer 1975 Addenda of ASME Section XI for Class 1 and Class 2 10-year hydrostatic tests, PSE&G requests the option to perform a system leakage test on Class 1 components and a system pressure test on Class 2 components in accordance with Article IWB-5221 and IWC-5221, respectively of the 1986 Edition of ASME Section XI, and the provisions of Code Case N-498.
PSE&G concurs with ASME's assessment of Code Case N-498 and believes that the use of this code case as an alternative option to hydrostatic testing would provide an acceptable level of quality and safety.
In support of our January 1992 Unit 2 10-Year ISI Outage, your expediency in the consideration of this request would be greatly appreciated.
