IR EXCELLENCE - A SU~.MER TRADITION!
Fish Kill Report July 4-61 1991 At approximately 1340 hours0.0155 days
0.372 hours
0.00222 weeks
5.0987e-4 months
on July 4, 1991, a limited fish kill was discovered in the Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station circulating water discharge bay. A total of fifty-two dead fish were collected, identified and measured immediately following the event. The decomposed state of the collected fish indicated that they were killed on approximately July 3, 1991.
An additional seven fish were collected on July 5, 1991. Also, on July 6, 1991, seventeen fish were collected. These were apparently killed on July 5, 1991, when temperature conditions in the discharge bay were similar to those recorded on July 3, 1991.
The investigation by plant personnel confirmed that there were no unusual discharges from the facility for th~ time period in question. Analysis of plant and reservoir conditions indicate that the cause of the fish kill was thermal in nature and coincided with reservoir drawdown.
The below listed attachments to this report provide a summary of data utilized during the investigation:
