I NLR-N89227 United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 Gentlemen:
NRC SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT GENERIC LETTER 83-28 ITEM 2.2 (PART 1)
SALEM GENERATING STATION UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-272 AND 50-311 PSE&G has received the NRC Safety Evaluation Report (SER) dated August 31, 1989 regarding Generic Letter 83-28, Item 2.2, Part 1 and has identified 2 slight discrepancies between the contractors report.attached to your letter and the actual system operation at Salem.
The discrepancies are as follows:
I
- 1.
Contractor's report - Section 5, page 6, paragraph 5.2.
The report states, "The MMIS database group is also responsible for classification of new components.*. "
At PSE&G, the change package initiators are responsible to perform the classification for new components, while the MMIS database group inputs the classification to the database.
- 2.
Contractor's report - Section 7, page 9, paragraph 7.2.
The report states, "The MMIS prepares the work orders and accesses the component classification database automatically."
In actual practice, the component classification is part of the MMIS database and not a separate database as eluded to in the report.
PSE&G does not believe these discrepancies to have any safety significance but is forwarding this information for your information and to correct the record.
