Dear Sir:
SALEM GENERATING STATION LICENSE NO. DPR-70 DOCKET NO. 50-272 UNIT NO. 1 May 17, 1989 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION SURVEILLANCE NOTIFICATION REQUIREMENT 4.4.5.5.a On May 6, 1989, Steam Generator {S/G} tube plugging was completed.
All Row 1 tubes in all four S/Gs were plugged due to indications of tangential cracking in a few of the Row 1 tubes.
The Row 1 inspection was performed as per a commitment made in Unit 2 LER 311/88-019-00.
In addition to the Row 1 tube plugging, 10 tubes were plugged due to imperfection depths greater than or equal to 40% and 19 tubes were plugged due to imperfection depths between 30 and 40%.
Attached is a list of the plugged tube locations completed this outage, not including the Row 1 tubes, for each S/G.
This notification is being made, within fifteen days after tube plugging, as required by Technical Specification Surveillance 4.4.5.5.a.
