~WS intake withdrdaws approximately 4D,OOO gpm to cool heat exchangers for the remainder of the equipment for both units including the safety related cooling system9. Both intakes utilize vertical traveling screens. The CWS intake has been the modified with Ristroph fish buckets and a fish return system.

Hope Creek Generating Station consists of one boiling water nuclear reactor of 1,067 MWe. It has one service water Intake which withdraws approximately 30,000 gpm. This water passes through miscellaneous heat exchangers, including safety related cooling systems, and then is used for make-up for the closed cycle CWS. Heat removal in the CWS is accomplished through a natural draft cooling tower.

PSE&G has concluded that the continued operation of Salem and Hope.Creek Generating Stations will not jeopardize the continued existence of the following recognized endangered or threatened sea turtles species:

Lepidochelys kempi - Kemp's ridley sea turtle Caretta caretta - Loggerhead sea turtle Dermochelys coriacea - Leatherback turtle Chelonia mydas - Green turtle This determination is based on the following:

Of the four species of sea turtles known from the Delaware Bay, the loggerhead and Kemp's ridley sea turtles are the only two species which have been collected from the circulating water intake at Salem Generating Station. The leatherback and green turtles have been observed/collected further downbay and in coastal waters. Therefore, no interaction of these two species with the plant is likely.
