Public Service Electric and Gas Company P.O. Box 236, Hancocks Bridge, NJ 08038 609 339-4199 Nuclear Operations May 20, 1988 NLR-N88071 United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 Gentlemen:
APPENDIX R MODIFICATION SCHEDULE SALEM GENERATING STATION UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-272 AND 50-311 PSE&G previously provided the NRC with a schedule for hardware modifications related to Licensee Event Reports87-009 and 87-010 via PSE&G letter NLR-N87221 dated November 25, 1987.
In that letter, PSE&G committed to advise you of significant modifications to the schedule.
Pursuant to that commitment, please be informed of a revised implementation date for a modification committed to in our letter dated November 5, 1987.
Item C in that letter committed to wrap a conduit in the upper electrical penetration area by April 15, 1988.
This work was completed for Unit 1 during the recent outage.
Since this commitment involves work in and around a plant Safeguards Equipment Control (SEC) cabinet, the work needs to be performed during a plant outage to reduce the risk of a plant trip.
The roving fire watch, initiated as a compensatory measure, will continue to monitor the area until the modification is complete.
PSE&G representatives met with Mr. W. Borchardt, Salem Senior Resident Inspector, on April 13, 1988 to discuss this item and agreed to perform the work during the next outage of sufficient duration, but no later than the Unit 2 Cycle 4 refueling outage, which is currently scheduled to begin September 1988.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
