Mr. Vincent S. Noonan, Director PWR Project Directorate #5 Division of PWR Licensing A Gentlemen:
SCHEDULE FOR INSTALLATION OF ATWS MITIGATION SYSTEM ACTUATION CIRCUITRY (AMSAC)
SALEM GENERATING STATION UNIT NOS. l AND 2 The purpose of this letter is to update Public Service Electric and Gas Company's (PSE&G) schedule for installation of AMSAC circuitry as committed to in our letter to Mr. Steven A. Varga dated October 11, 1985.
PSE&G is actively involved in the Westinghouse Owners Group (WOG) on ATWS programs.
We have evaluated the options discussed in the WOG report WCAP-10858, "AMSAC Generic Design Package," as reviewed and approved by the NRC.
It is our plan to install the AMSAC option based on Stearn Generator Low-Low Water Level logic.
PSE&G will utilize standard Westinghouse design unless prohibited by plant specific design.
The system is currently scheduled to be installed during the 7th refueling outage (start September 1987) for Unit 1 and the 4th refueling outage (start March 1988) for Unit 2.
PSE&G will provide a detailed design package when available and will continue to utilize new information as developed by the WOG.
If you have any questions regarding this information, please feel free to contact us.
Sincerely,
Mr. Vincent s. Noonan C
