INSERVICE TESTING PROGRAM REVISIONS (RE: LER 86-002-00)

SALEM GENERATING STATION UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-311 AND 50-272 In accordance with the commitments made in LER 86-002-00, PSE&G hereby transmits Revision 4 to the Salem Unit No. 1 Inservice Testing (pump and valve) Program and Revision 3 to the Salem Unit No. 2 Inservice Testing Program. These documents supersede those previously transmitted on December 31, 1985 and January 28, 1986, respectively. These programs will be. in effect within 30 days; at which time procedures will be approved and in place.

These submittals are the result of an extensive review of systems and components required to place and maintain the reactors in a safe shutdown condition. The following is a summary of the types of changes made to the programs as a result of the reviews:

1. No changes were made to the pump testing programs.
2. Valves were added and deleted as appropriate.
3. Relief requests for valves were deleted, modified or added based on the guidance provided by the NRC SER on this subject dated April 12, 1983.
4. We have maintained the relief requests to incorporate 90 day frequency for pump testing, deletion of all Category E valves and incorporation of the passive valve concept as described in later NRC approved editions of ASME
