ENGINEERING EXPERTISE ON SHIFT (GENERIC LETTER 86-04)
SALEM GENERATING STATION UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-272 AND 50-311 In response to Generic Letter 86-04, "Policy Statement on Engineering Expertise on Shift," Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) hereby submits the following infor~ation.
- 1.
PSE&G currently assigns a qualified Shift Technical Advisor (STA) who is also qualified Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) to each shift at Salem Generating Station.
This individual may fill_ a dual role STA/SRO position.
- 2.
The "equivalency" criteria used in PSE&G's STA program is consistent with that provided in the NRC's policy statement.
- 3.
The current program for qualification and training of STAs has been reviewed and approved by the NRC.
No changes to the current program are envisioned at this time.
