RADIOCHEMICAL MEASUREMENT IMPROVEMENT ACTION PLAN SALEM GENERATING STATION UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE DPR-70 AND DPR-75 In response to follow-up item 86-02-02 in NRC combined Inspection Report 50-272/86-02 and 50-311/86-02 date March 17, 1986 and as the result of our own review efforts, we have developed an action plan for the improvement of our radio-chemical measurement program.

The proposed improvement action plan includes the following elements:

0 Counting Room Quality Control Procedures will be upgraded to enhance the formatting of collected data and include peak resolution by July 1, 1986.

Means of upgrading the quality of the electrical power provided to the Counting Room will be investigated with the intention of having equipment on line by January 1, 1987.

The Interlaboratory Comparison Program will be reviewed with the necessary changes expected to be in effect by October 1, 1986.

Actions already taken to improve the quality of our radiochemical measurements include the following:

Window air conditioners have been purchased and installed to assist in providing temperature regulation in the Counting Room.

Multi-Channel Analyzer detector vibration problems have been investigated; identified problems were corrected.

Electrical power line-conditioning has been used to reduce noise to the multi-channel analyzer with some improvement in results.
