Public Service Electric and Gas Company P.O. Box 236 Hancocks Bridge, NJ 08038 609 339-4200 Richard A. Uderitz Vice President - Nuclear February 21, 1985 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Division of Licensing Washington, DC 20555 Attention:
Mr. Steven A. Varga, Chief Operating Reactors Branch, No. 1 Gentlemen:
PSE&G ACTION PLANS:
2.1.l FUNCTIONAL ANALYSIS OF THE VPN AND ALL DIRECT REPORTS, 2.1.2 WORKING RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE NUCLEAR DEPARTMENT AND CORPORATE PUBLIC RELATIONS, HUMAN RESOURCES AND PURCHASING DEPARTMENTS, 2.1.4 COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN THE NUCLEAR DEPARTMENT AND CORPORATE SALEM GENERATING STATION DOCKET NOS. 50-272 AND 50-311 The subject Action Plans require a follow-up assessment of their effectiveness be conducted subsequent to implementation.
This letter is to notify you that the conduct of these assessments will be rescheduled.
With the Vice President - Nuclear scheduled to be rotated to the position of Vice President - Fossil Production in March 1985 and the Assistant Vice President - Nuclear Operations position still vacant, a six month follow-up report would be premature until a new Vice President -
Nuclear and Assistant Vice President-Nuclear Operations have been appointed and have had some time in their respective offices.
It is our professional judgement that a more useful follow-up assessment could be performed during the month of September 1985 instead of during March 1985.
By this later date, the senior management team of the Department will have been functioning together effectively for several months; they will have had the opportunity to work with the established matrix agreements and will also have had time to contribute their own efforts to the improvement of corporate/site communications.

2/21/85 Additionally, although these action plans could be assessed separately, they are sufficiently interrelated such that an assessment can be more efficiently conducted simultaneously.
For these reasons, the follow-up assessments for Action Plans 2.1.1, 2.1.2, and 2.1.4 will be rescheduled as follows:
2.1.1 2.1.2 2.1.4 From March, 1985 August, 1985 March, 1985 To September, 1985 September, 1985 September, 1985 The follow-up assessments are expected to take about one month and should be complete by September 27, 1,985.
