PROPOSED CHANGE

.TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

  • SALEM GENERATING STATION UNIT NO. l AND 2 DESCRIPTION OF CHANGE Ref:

LCR 84-16 Add Section 6.8.4(e) to existing Salem Unit 1 and 2 *Technical Specifications to incorporate *Post*Accident Sampling Program requirements.

REASON FOR CHANGE This change to the Procedures and Programs section of the Technical S~ec(fication is being made to ensure that a Post Accident Sampling Program is* implemented to include training,*

necessary procedures~ and proper maintenance of sampling/

analysis equipment in response to NRC Generic Letter 83-37, NUREG-0737 Technical Specifications.

10CFR 50.92 SIGNIFICANT HAZARDS EVALUATION The Post Accident Sampling System (P.A.S.S.) was installed to address the requirements of NUREG-0737.

The addition of Technical Specifications covering a program to ensure the proper use of the P.A.s.s. in no way increases probability or consequences if any previously evaluated accident, does not increase the possibility of any new accident and by virtue of adding the assurance that a comprehensive P.A.s.s. Program is implemented, enhances the margin of safety for plant operations.

This change corresponds to example (ii) of the Commission's guidance on "Amendments Not Likely to Involve a Significant Hazards Consideration published in 48FR14870.
