Dear Sirs:

Groundwater in the Sandstone A formation in and around Former Burial Area #2 (BA2),

previously targeted for remediation of uranium in groundwater, now appears to comply with not only the decommissioning criterion, but State criteria for unrestricted release. Consequently, groundwater remediation planned for the BA2 Area will be discontinued. However, a single groundwater sample collected from a drive point piezometer in transition zone sediment downgradient of BA2 in 2014 exceeded not only the State criterion but the decommissioning criterion.

The remediation of groundwater in the sediment in this portion of the drainage presented quite a challenge, so assessment of this western reach of the drainage was conducted in January 2018.

Based on the information gained from that effort, a second assessment in the eastern reach of the drainage was conducted.

Compiling the information obtained from historic assessments (small scale and for a specific purpose each time) with the information obtained in these 2018 assessments enabled our design team to develop a remediation plan for this area that not only saves money, but both accelerates the remediation of the 1206 drainage and reduces the risk associated with estimating the duration of remediation for this area.

The attached technical memorandum presents the data evaluation that was performed, presents three-dimensional illustrations of the sediment in the drainage area, and presents a remediation strategy that will be incorporated into Facility Decommissioning Plan - Rev 1.
