KBowman AEOD FINAL REPORT ON THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE ATWS EVENTS AT THE SALEM NUCLEAR POWER PLANT ON THE NRC PROGRAM FOR THE COLLEC]lQN AND ANALYSIS OF OPERATIONAL EXPERIENCE In response to your memorandum of July 1, 1983, we have reviewed the final AEOD report on the above subject.
This report is similar to the draft
- report which we reviewed and provided comments to you on June 10, 1983.
As previously stated, we find that the subject of rea~tor trip reliability is well treated. In addition, the NRR activities in this area prior to the Salem A1WS events are accurately presented.
We support the proposed AEOD actions discussed in the reports' Executive
- S1W1mary.
Of particular importance wil 1 be the clari fi cation of existing reporting requirements and the continuation of AEOD's trends and patterns analysis.
We believe that the actions,being proposed by AEOD are correct
\\_:_,and should be beneficial in the long term.
\\ ;In *addition, we believe that the actions we are taking by the generic letter orf this subject (NUREG-1000. Volume 2) adequately addresses our mutual concerns.
