SAFETY EVALUATION REQUESTS FOR RELIEF FROM IN-SERVICE TESTING REQUIREMENTS SALEM GENERATING STATION UNIT NO. 1 DOCKET NO. 50-272 The subject Safety Evaluation, transmitted by your letter of April 12, 1983, identified three items requiring additional PSE&G actions.

Our response to these items is as follows:

1.

The In-Service Test (IST) Program has been amended to change the classification of 28 Pressure Isolation Valves to Category A and to include valves lRHl and 1RH2 in the existing leakage testing program.

Attached are replacement pages to the Salem IST Program submitted on April 29, 1981.

We hereby amend our relief request for the reasons stated on the attachment.

2.

Testing for Fire Protection and Emergency Diesel Generator Auxiliary Systems is currently being reviewed.

This item will be fully addressed in accordance with your schedule.

3.

Investigation of full-stroke exercising Category C Safety Accumulator Discharge Check Valves ll-14SJ55 has been completed.

We hereby revise our relief request to indicate these valves can be full-stroke tested (See Attachment).
