William.J~ Dircks Executive Director for Op er at ions AEOD REPORT ON THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE AnJS EVENTS AT THE SALEM NUCLEAR Pm~ER PLANT ON THE NRC PROGRAM FOR COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS OF OPERATIONAL EXPERIENCE In late March, AEOD initiated a study of the implications of the Salem AHJS events on the NRC program for the collection and analysis of operationa*1 experience.
Th~ objective of i;hg study was to see if changes are needed in the methods the agency is ctfrren't1y using to collect and evaluate operating experience. The study focused on the reporting requirements for Reactor Protection System and Reactor Trip Breaker (RTB} failures~ the 1 icensee reporting to date, and the data analysis activities of the NRC and others.
Enclosed.for your information and consideration is the final AEOD report.
The Executive Summary _contains the conclusions from the study and the actions planned by AEOD to improve activities in collecting and evaluating operat*ing experience. -
This report has been forwarded to NRR, IE, and RES for information and consjderation.
