RMattson VStel 1 o This is in response to your inquiry of July 29, 1978, regarding placement of a central sewage plant for Hutchinson Island on the site of the St. Lucie Plant, Uni~ Nos.

1 and 2.

There is nothing in our regulations which would prohibit placement of such a central sewage plant on the site of the St. Lucie Plants.

However, an application to the NRC would be required from Florida Power and Light Company and the agency/authority'desiring to place the sewage plant on the nucleat site.

The NRC would evaluate the application and act accordingly.

@ Light Company have a couple of nuclear generating plants on Hutchinson Island and we have no fear of Che plants being so close to our xesidenceo Thexe is however a plan on foot to attempt to rezone property~right in the heart.of the major areas where residences are located., for a central sewage plant to take care of the approximately ten mile long area of all of Saint Lucie County portion of Hutchinson 1sland+ This gives us great cavern since we have been advised, in advance that they will not be able to guarantee that Chere will not be offensive odors Qxznn it 3:t is our understanding that Florida Power R Light:Company was xequired. by your agency to set aside an area on Butchinson 3:sland both one mile north and, one mile south of the nuclear plant where no xesidential homes would. be permitted Co be builto Ne have suggested that the central sewage'lant be located.
