Thank you for your shovi of interest in your letter dd. April 26 to filr.E.G.prime, viho is aloo a CURE Dizector, Me received a short reply from the l!RC, stating that the mission of the l]RC isis to assure that if nuclear oneroy is used in private industry, the public is protected.

Since then, a malfunctioning valve in the coolant ystem of'he plant neces itated another shutdown.
Althouoh FpL had said the 4000 gal of pzimary coolant spill (April 6) viould be processed in the plant o
allovied to sit for 3 to 6 wee!<s to permit radioac ive decay, it was discharade on the 9 h day vihen the viator valve caused overheating and the next plant shutdown.
A olanco at the enclosed performance record of St,Lucia I viill shovi some of the reasons for our communi-cation.
Our concern is heightened by the fact that the iiRC Board has recently decided that ho cash investment makes it advisable to proceed viith another plan, even though no other actual ites viore considered beforehand.
Furthermore, evacuation plannino in Florida in case of nuclear accident or war is almost nonexistant and Civil Defense iB Florida is acutely concewrned.
Lie urge you to use your inf'luence to achieve better evacuation plans foz our State and to delay the creation of nevi nuclear plants until all i " extraorminary problems of performancep vlaste storage, insurance and evacuation plans have been resolved.
