U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION STAFF REVIEW OF THE SHERWOOD, WASHINGTON DISPOSAL SITE FOLLOW-UP INSPECTION AND EVALUATION REPORT
Dear Mr. Kreie:
I am writing in response to your letter, dated March 12, 2018 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession Number ML18078A318) providing Follow-up Inspection and Evaluation report at the Sherwood, Washington Disposal Site. Based on the information in the report, we understand that the area eroding is downslope of the actual tailings containment dam and does not threaten the disposal cell. The report includes an engineering analysis of the erosion and recommended actions. You also stated that although the forest fire burned over a portion of the site, it did not burn the actual disposal cell or erosion control features. Based on the report, the NRC staff does not have any comments at this time.
In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Section 2.390, a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records component of NRCs ADAMS.
