u. s. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 7920 Norfolk Avenue Bethesda, Maryland 20014 Attention:

Mr. Steven A~ Varga, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #1 Division of Licensing

Dear Mr. Varga:

SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT FOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION OF SAFETY-RELATED ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT SALEM GENERATING STATION UNITS NO. 1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-272 AND 50-311 The subject SER's forwarded Franklin Research Center's evaluation of PSE&G's Equipment Qualification Report for Salem Units 1 and 2.

The SER's requested a response within seven (7) days as to whether any portions of the pages of the Franklin Report identified as proprietary still require proprietary protection.

PSE&G has reviewed the pages identified as proprietary.

It was the originators of the various documents who have claimed the material identified in the Franklin Institute Report as proprietary.

As PSE&G has not been notified by any orginator of any change in status of this proprietary material, the information remains proprietary and, therefore, cannot be released to the public by the NRC.

PSE&G has contacted several vendors who have confirmed that there is no change in the proprietary status.
